One of the most lucrative Internet Marketing niches is personal coaching
Here are some of the war stories that I’ve heard from coaching clients.
War Story #1-
Guru X told me he’d help me launch my IM business in a big way.
We had 4 phone calls each lasting an hour over the course of a month.
We decided that I would launch a new IM product and then he’d promote it to his list
A month goes by, the product is made, and he even gives me some pointers on my sales page
He mails his list, the repsonse is pretty good and I’m on the map.
THE END…
No more coaching sessions or calls or contacts. Not a bad deal for the coaching client but they still have no idea where to go from here, because all they did was create, sell, and launch one product.
NO upsell, NO marketing funnel, NO idea on what kind of positioning would be achieved with a mini-launch like this…
War Story #2
Client gets a coach, and coaches’ forte is in copywriting.
This coach tells him how to improve the conversions on his exisitng sites and tells him a little but about positioning, the marketing mindset, the herd mindset etc….
The client gets a lot of great copywriting advice here and implements it and sees some improvements in conversions.
THE END…
The client is still not getting enough traffic to warrant any justification on why he changed his sales copy, still doesn’t know how to get enough traffic to make a great income from his new-and-improved sites, and doesn’t have a marketing funnel in place yet…
War Story #3
The group coaching program
This to me is the worst kind of program because there’s no personal attention being given and there’s really nothing unique being told to you about your specific business.
In case like this you don’t get to talk to the “guru” but you are in contact with staff members told to regurgitate their highly sought after advice in mass form, via mass communication and group calls.
You’re told the basics of researching your niche, using the right keywords on your site, and given some copywriting ebooks to use to help you write good copy for your sites.
THE END…
No sales funnel exploration or discussion, no real business plan established, no idea of where to go form here, and a feeling of being dropped like a hot tamale once the coaching period is over.
What you need to do before investing in an internet marketing coach…
Ask for referrals- don’t be awestruck by the fact that some “guru” is willing to take your money, (thank you so much…)
Ask for detailed explanation on what will be taught- ask about marketing funnels, postioning ideas, traffic generation tips, and copywriting tips.
Ask about followup support-when are you cut off from their sphere of influence?
Ask for site and biz plan analysis- How can this coach help you grow and develop what you already have?
Ask how much time is involved on your end- A lot of coaches trying to help you will overwhelm you with a lot of necessary ( and unnecessary ) tasks to do because they’re trying to get you up to speed ASAP, but many forget the fact that most people seeking personal coaching also have fulltime jobs during the day, and they’re adding to the overload by giving too much of a workload.
A business is something that runs on its own. Serial book producers do have a business of sorts, but their income is largely dependent on flavor-of-the-day marketing products and their income spikes during the product launches then slowly subsides over time.
The internet marketing coaches giving you their personal time and attention in exchange for coaching fees have an evergreen product; themsleves.
As long as they continue to show how they are the top-of-the-top then they will be in demand, but they’re also trading time for dollars…
However, the better they are at it, the more they try to charge and if they truly enjoy what they do, then its more of a labour of love than a JOB trading time for dollars.
What kind of coaching do you need?
Personal hands-on coaching and help with technical stuff?
Mindset work- getting you to unthink what you think you know and retrain your brain into the right way of thinking ( the success mindset)?
Increase your sales via better conversions, or increase your income via better business planning?
Only you know the answer to this, and you can do yourself a big favor if you do some sort of self and business-analysis before seeking out an internet marketing coach.
Chances are, you’ll not hear anything new, but you will respect the information you’ve heard and digested before in an ebook or video you bought even more when you hear it from a coach.
