If there’s one thing I’m realizing with my forays into the “Offline Gold” niche it’s that basic marketing skills are highly prized and sought after by offline businesses.
The average marketer or home business opportunist who has been “trying” to succeed online for more than 3 months should possess more than enough knowledge on their hard drive, right now… to make big bucks catering to oflfine businesses that need web presences.
A long time ago I read the hardcover ebook called EMyth Revisited, which spoke about how real businesses are run.
Think about the guy who works 14 hours a day at his convenience store on the corner…
If he’s sick or can’t work the shift that day, he usually has a low-paid employee work that shift for him, or has a family member cover for him…
Is this a business?
Let’s assume this owner of the convenience store has a corporation (has his business incorporated) or has an L.L.C. or whatever kind of legal term constitutes owning a business on paper…
Does that mean it’s a business in the truest sense of the word?
Not exactly…
If the corner store guy can’t step away from his business without sales dropping or income being reduced significantly, then what he has is a JOB…
Back to the point here…
The internet marketing world of marketing to other marketers is somewhat competitive, with many marketers selling the newest Flavor-of-the-day products.
Why is that? Because the audience demands it, that’s why…
How does the audience demand it? Because if it seems new then it sells better.
This is what I dislike about the Internet Marketing niche… it’s usually the same concepts put in different packages and re-dressed as new.
However, since business is an ever-changing entity and market situations change with it as a result, there are many things that are new.
WordPress blogs, Joomla, LSI, Drupal, Twitter etc…
These are all new or were new at one point and only after a while did it become glaringly obvious that learning some of these new concepts or tools were necessary to implement…
But basic marketing skills are easily come by, aren’t they?
Look, here’s the basics of making money online.
- Research some niches
- Find one that is profitable
- Find a solution
- Deliver the solution
- Offer the solution
- Rinse and repeat, or expand that particular niche outward…
Do you need to know about traffic generation?
Grab a good ebook on the subject and implement it then…
Same goes for copywriting, making sites, squeeze pages, blogs, email marketing etc…
The basic marketing skills are easily come by, I’ll write that one more time…
Most people already possess these skills or have this knowledge sitting on their hard drives…
Most offline businesses want NO part of learning any of this and that’s where the skills you possess or under-value can become very valuable…
Scenario:
Someone comes to you and says,
“Hey, you got a great site there, how did you build it, does it make money for you?”
And if you can answer this question properly, then you have enough knowledge to charge for it.
- If your site isn’t making money, get more traffic to it
- Get the right kind of traffic to it
- Build a list from that traffic
- If it’s still not making any money even with traffic, improve the site copy…
- If your products don’t sell via email marketing, improve that, too.
- Buy an ebook, implement some changes, and move on…
By the way, if you want an online marketing guide that explain all of this via text, audios, and videos get this online marketing guide.
